Your data, privacy and the law. How we use your medical records.
We take your privacy seriously. This page explains how we use your medical records to support your care, what the law allows us to do, and how your data is kept secure. It covers who we may share information with (like hospitals or NHS services), how you can access your records, and what rights you have under data protection laws. Your information is only used when necessary — always with care, respect, and in line with NHS and legal standards.
When do we share your data?
We only share your information when it’s necessary for your care, required by law, or helps the NHS run safely and efficiently. This includes sharing with hospitals, community teams, NHS Digital, or services like out-of-hours care. We’ll always make sure your data is shared securely, lawfully, and only with those who need to know. Sometimes, we may use anonymised data for planning or research — and you can opt out if you prefer.
